Fun foods: Colorado edition

Those of you who have been following my fun foods posts may have noticed frequent comments about foods only my dad would eat, and if you don't know my dad particularly well, you might think I was joking. Not so. I was recently in Colorado for Christmas, and shortly after I arrived my dad returned from hunting. His group had shot two elk, and Dad was the proud recipient of BOTH hearts, because, oddly enough, no one else wanted them. *gasp* Here they are, bubbling like some vile witches brew.

Here we can see the actual heart a little better, though to get the full effect you would need the smell as well.

And, not to neglect other 'organ meats' or 'offal' as some might put it, we have a ginormous elk liver, a malignant presence in the sink. (I'd be more circumspect in my language, but it has come to my attention that Dad does *not* follow blogs).

Finally, in the not-even-a-little-gross department was my delicious crannberry-orange triffle, which looked fun and tasted delicious and got devoured in record time.

I've never made a trifle, but it looks delicious. I think I'll have to try - do you want to share your recipe?
