Hospitals

I have a few comments on hospitals. They can be really annoying, since they usually have twice as many floors as they admit to. Between every real floor is the secret floor that they don't really want you thinking about, where all the pipes and tubes run, and likely where all the fun stuff happens. Sometimes you'll see little doors in the stairway... The reason this is annoying is that when you take the stairs, you have to walk up two flights to go up one floor. Say you're on the second floor and need to get to the fourth. Two floors, right? Not a big deal. Wrong! Its four flights, and there's a good chance that its a twisty staircase. Four flights of twisty stairs and you can get dizzy going up, let alone going down. On the other hand, hospitals sometimes have nice courtyards (the house I want to live in when I grow up will have a courtyard) and most hospital complexes have tunnels, above or below ground, connecting all the buildings. Or most of the buildings. Maybe that's a Milwaukee thing, because it gets so cold in the winter. Its fun though, navigating from one building to the next, sometimes through such a maze that there ought to be cheese waiting somewhere. And while I haven't found any cheese yet, there is periodically free food to be had, which is always nice. For example, today we got to celebrate the birthday of the founder of Froedtert hospital, who got it named after himself because hard to spell hospital names are otherwise in short supply in Milwaukee (most of them are St. that that or the other) (german lutheran background vs irish catholic). Anyway, free cupcakes for everyone!!! It was a lot of cupcakes.
